The LED Car Signal

This is a really useful gadget when you cut someone up or do something to annoy another driver in your new Audi. Simply programme the device to say whatever you want and it will come up at the back of the car to tell the driver behind you what you really think of them. Of course if you are a good driver and make a mistake you could use it to apologise to the other person.

The iPod player/ charger

This one is easily the most used gadget in my car and without this I would be stuck listening to the very boring DJ’s and the irratating advertisements that traditional radio is made up of.  Instead I put the pod on and listen to all of my favourite tracks as well as charging it all at the same time. The plus side to my kit is that I can also do this with my iPhone too! Great for my Audi R8.

The truth is everything from the can opener to the frying pan is technically a gadget and I am almost certain that they have helped us out a lot more than things like the iPhone has. Think about it, if the world was in a lot of trouble and all we had left were can foods then what would we rely on? Sure I could most likely find an app that would simulate the opening of a can but that does not actually help me with opening a tin of beans.

People often never think of the important things like tableware and other home furnishings but believe it or not without these we would not be able to live as we do in today’s society.

The Radiator

The radiator was actually invented way back in 1855  and has sucessfully heated our homes for a number of years now. They have to be one of the oldest gadgets out there that we still use today and we use them every single year without fail. Of course there are things like dehumidifier that have come in help but they will never replace them. There are also many varities of the radiator like the oil filled radiator

Cup Warmer

This is something that has become very useful over the past few years and I even have USB one in the office. I am constantly off in meetings and when I do go off I never have the chance to pick up my cup of tea. With this it means I can enjoy my cuppa when I get back.

So what is a level switch?

Well basically they will detect the level of substances that flow and will alert someone if the liquid is getting to high in its container. This of course has become very useful in several work environments.
One of the most important is of course the Nuclear industry where no mistakes can be made at all. Level switches come into it because if something does go wrong then you are going to have to know about it. If the nuclear waste gets to a certain point then an alarm will get sent out via level switches and someone comes in to save the day.

Of course the nuclear industry isn’t the only industry to do this as many level switches are used all over the place such as the drinks business, things involving dangerous liquids such as acid and anything that could cost the company money if it spills over.

Snow

The snow here in the UK has been pretty bad in January and this of course means that because of the snow many of the schools were shut for a long period of time. This also means that many parents had to stay at home with the kids too which means they are going to want to crack up the heating.

USA

The US has seen major temperature falls this year with a lot of really warm states such as Florida hitting as low as 3 degrees, this also means that the heating will be switched on which is why Obama is actually paying out $16 million for heating bills this winter.

Gadgets To Help?

While there aren’t really gadgets as such that can help with something like this you can get your loft insulated, have a industrial heater put into place or even get double glazing fixed onto your windows.  Portable heaters are also another option to take.

Whatever the choice make sure you are keeping warm in the big freeze.

iPhone

For me this has to be on the top of my list as I simply cannot count the amount of people that have an iPhone in our office.  They are so useful for many reasons and the main are of course, web browsing, email and ipod access.

Encrypted USB devices

These are very useful if you are carrying around important documents on USB devices. They will only allow you access to the files so even if something is stolen you can rest easy as they will not be able to get into the files. Unless of course they are an awesome hacker, in which case your screwed.

icache

One of the best inventions I have ever seen, although I doubt it will hit the public for a few years. Load up all of your cards whether that be store cards, credit cards or membership cards onto one device. Easy to steal? Well no because it only recognises your unique thumbprint and even if someone gets that they are only able to use one card per use. Genious!

Of course at the moment many businesses are sticking to things like direct mail services and data management. Think where that will be in ten years time?

The latest innovation in the world of TV is LED backlighting. LEDs are cropping up all over the place recently, in everything from car headlights to light-up crystal vases. They are popular because they are very reliable, create very true light and use a great deal less energy than other forms of lighting. The florescent lights that are used in most standard TVs worked well for a long time, but technology moves forwards at an alarming rate and the old bulbs just dont cut the mustard any more.

The LED back lighting has come about largely because there is an increased demand for better definition on TVs and the world is also going slim line. People want their phones, stereos and even vases slim line these days, and TVs are no different. Unlike traditional lighting, LEDs only need to be situated on the edges of the screen as a diffusion panel is used to spread the light over the whole screen evenly. What this means then is that many manufacturers are able to produce TVs only 2.5cm. Advanced colour gamut and improved dynamic screen contrast are other steps forwards.

The LED-lit TVs are also more kind to the environment (and your wallet) than the old lighting. The LED lights consume only around a 4th of the electricity that the standard fluorescent lights do. Further more, when it comes to disposing of them, there is a great deal less pollution. Additionally, LED-lit televisions are less prone to power-surge damage and even water damage. That said, its not advised that you start resting your wine glasses on top of them, just in case.

Gloves

Yes believe it or not gloves are very important for someone who is in a wheelchair as it helps them to keep a grip on the wheels when moving around. On top of this it is also going to be helping the hands out as without gloves you will start to see a lot of wear and tear on the hands.

Insulin Pump

Diabetes is a disability and although many people say there is a cure on the way I cannot personally see anything coming to the public in the near future. It is said that only 2% of people in the UK have a insulin pump but those people have all said that it has made a significant difference on their life.

Vehicles

Although this is a bit of a big gadget and many people may argue that it really isnt a gadget at all, wheelchair accessible vehicles have come in useful for people over the past few years. Without vehicles like this it would be impossible to take many people anywhere which would be a great shame as they need to get out as much as everyone else.

So there you have it, just a few of the gadgets out there that could help the disabled.

Well if you think about it, the guitar has been around for many years and has become one of the biggest used inventions in the world. Whilst there are always newer models coming out they are always based upon the original simple design. You could buy a guitar now and still play very good music with it 20-50 years time. This is because something like the guitar doesn’t date which is great compared to some of the recent gadgets that have hit the world recently.

Something like the iPhone or Xbox 360 will be outdated in a couple of years because the newer model will overshadow the past. Although you could go back and mess around with the older model there isn’t much point whereas with the guitar there are actually great reasons for playing your older guitars.

However their are many music playing devices like DJ equipment that seem to date very quickly indeed.

Men

One option to take is the computer console option, ask for a 360 or PS3 (Wii sucks) as they will give you countless hours of fun. Time off over the Christmas period is great and it will really let you get stuck into some of the games you could be getting for Christmas such as Gears of War 2 and Guitar Hero 5. If your rich you could ask for both! Won’t make your partners pocket feel very happy though.

Women

If you ask for jewellery from your boyfriend or husband make sure that you tell them exactly what you are after and they may be able to do it. It is of course very unlikely that this will happen at all.

Both

There are many things that both men and women would enjoy this year for Christmas and the iPhone has to be one on the list. The iPhone is really a great phone as it has somehow managed to battle through the recession and has won the support of many fans of the phone.

Perhaps you could ask for a laptop this christmas. Okay it isn’t all about working from home and it is much easier to have more than one computer/laptop in the house (as we have learnt) as there are no longer arguments on who is using the computer at what time.

Of course it is also best to get some gadget insurance for all of this and optimising on insurance on something like iPhone insurance is the best way for it.
