Kindle Wireless Reading Gadgets

This post takes a look at the similarities and differences between the Global Kindle and the Kindle DX.

The clearest difference between these electronic reading gadgets available for purchase at this time is that one only works in America while the other works in over 100 countries around the world. Clearly if you make your bed somewhere outside the USA (or if you are an American who frequently visits other countries) then that makes your decision (such as it is) obvious; You must choose the Global Kindle.

Besides that, the biggest difference is that of their sizes. The Kindle DX Electronic Reading Device is far bigger as far it’s display size and it’s memory capabilities. It’s also much bigger as far as it’s priceis concerned (as of now the DX costs more than $200 more than the Global Kindle.)

The DX is 9.7 inches and the Global Kindle is 6 inches. The bigger display is particularly helpful with newspaper subscriptions (it makes it more like reading a real paper.) On the flip side, the smaller size of the smaller version can make it easier to take around with you.

There is also a big difference when it comes to memory. The Kindle DX Electronic Reading Device can hold up to 3,500 books while the smaller version of this wireless reading device can hold about 1,500 books. Although, who has more than 1,500 books?! Honestly, I have a very difficult time believing that this extra space that the DX has is necessary for the majority of people.

Another difference is the auto-rotating screen that the DX has.The DX also has a built in PDF reader that the smaller version does not have.

Both kindles can download from a selection of about a half million books, magazines, and newspapers which can usually be purchased for much lower prices than their paper alternatives.

Both kindles have text to speech software which automatically turns all of your books into audio books.

Neither of these gadgets have any monthly charges to worry about. The wireless service is provided much like the wireless for GPS navigational systems. Once you get the gadget the wireless just works, there’s nothing else to worry about and no bills to pay.

They both have a very basic built in web browswer that lets you check out websites from anywhere. This browser is meant for text based informational sites like blogs and Wikepedia. It’s not for pictures or videos.

They both have a “no glare” display that “reads like paper.” If you are worried that reading this will be similar to reading your computer monitor then don’t be! It’s not like that at all.
