MAC vs. PC – Which Computer?
The long debate is still at full flow and with the PC still way out in front, we look at the option of Mac realistically catching it up. Firstly let’s have a look and the positives and negatives of both systems.
Apple Mac
The Apple Mac is a very different beast from a PC; originally used premoninantly by graphic designers for publishing software including as Quark Express.
if you have been using a PC for most of your life, then it will take you some time in getting used to how a Mac works. That said, once you have got used to it, the Mac system is a very user friendly computer. aA crucial advantage of Mac’s is much software and hardware is developed in house and with tight protocol, therefore it is not a third party creating different parts of the systems so it can be a lot more reliable.
Apple Mac – One Disadvantage: Mac’s can be pricey. With the amount that you can pay for a lower specification Mac, you could obtain yourself a top of the range PC that will be feature packed.
Apple Mac – One Advantage: Can you remember the last time your mates Mac was infected with a virus? No, enough said.
PC
Traditional PCs and laptops are very popular, and dominate the home market with 90% occupancy. PC’s are cheap, customisable and easy to take apart and put back together.
PC – One Disadvantage: Prone to viruses and hardware failures
PC – One Advantage: Hardware can be customised
Mac vs. PC conclusions
MACS are very tasty pieces of kit, If you have the money and can afford an Apple Mac then I would go to this higher level of equipment. Ultimately it does depend on what you want the machine for. There is still the debat on games, can the Mac run as many games as a PC? The answer is no, but is that reason enough. That is why we have dedicated games consoles.
It’s Mac for me all day long.

We use Macs in the office; there is no question they are great computers and far more reliable than PC’s.

I really dislike MAC’s. They are very good on the eye, but the programs I need to run my business are far more reliable on my PC. The iPhone is sweet though.

Macs are definitely my preference. Easy to set up, the OS is solid, the machines are quiet and they’re not stuffed with ‘trial software’. Also,no horrible Microsoft products. Well worth the slight learning curve in my opinion

I think mac’s are way overpriced unless you are using them for either video or music production. I think most people just want them because they are trendy and look good.

I think if you’re going into best buy, a mac is probably the way to go, but if you’re going to build your own machine, if you spend the amount of money on a pc that you would have a mac, then you can build a much better system. pcs are built more for low end use, but that doesn’t mean they all are.

Thank you.. I always wondering about the differences between Mac and PC.. I guess price does speak on it’s own.. Higher price means higher quality

Have grown up with PCs since childhood and always looked down on macs after a brief 5 minute confusion with the single button mouse and funny looking menus.
But since my wife got an imac a couple of years back I’ve been well and truly converted. Simply beautiful design, combined with the fact that it never crashes and runs programs like Photoshop beautifully! I would always go for a Mac if you can afford it.

The fact that MAC’s don’t get virusses are it’s main benefit. In many ways I think they are better, but I still use a PC – probably because I’m used to it. I suppose that’s good marketing – a MAC may be a better (or equal) product but most of us still use PC’s.

Buddy, you slightly mis-stated the fact regarding viruses
No, PC isn’t prone to viruses! OS ? Yes OS is prone to viruses particularly Windows. Mind you Mac OS X also gets some viruses (I heard and have not seen). And many pc users use Linux because it gives the stability and doesn’t catch viruses like Windows. Benefit of Linux is that you rarely catch a virus and even if you do, it won’t auto-execute, and will execute only once you have administrator privileges otherwise it won’t execute. Macs look beautiful but you can setup your Linux the way Mac Desktop look. I don’t own a mac and even though they look attractive, I would prefer PC.

I’ve never used a mac but then I like to mess about with my PC’s – upgrading components and the like which is something I do like doing. I’d like to maybe get a MacBook Pro one day as well as the PC as they are great looking machines.

Macs are great computers that can also run Windows, Linux, as well as OS X.
Because the hardware is so tightly integrated with all aspects of the software, the computing experience is awesome… but that’s just an opinion.
The only problem with Macs is the price, I for one wish Apple would get with the program and provide computers across every segment in the market.
If they ever do it, they’ll truly massacre the competition.
