Science Teachers Recommend Radio Control

with one comment

A survey of science and technology teachers in the UK asked for their opinions on the educational benefits of various toys, games and pass-times enjoyed by children today. The survey was conducted by University students who are looking at the impact of computer games on child development and education.

In the survey teachers were asked to rate the relative educational benefits of various hobbies, games and playthings including games on the WII fit, XBox and Playstation along with Climbing frames, trampolines, radio control cars and more. The results were surprising in that most of the teachers who responded indicated that children who had radio control models as one of their hobbies tended to be more educationally advanced than those who didn’t.

The differences were particularly noticeable in certain subjects including Design and Technology, physics and engineering. Children who played with radio control cars and aircraft tended to have a better understanding of basic engneering principles than those who didn’t.

The survey findings are far from conclusive but they suggest that children who find radio control to be an interesting and engaging hobby tend to have an aptitude for technical subjects. So if you want to give your youngster a boost towards a career in science and engneering buy them a radio control model.

  1. It makes sense really, if you start a child off at a young age with remote control cars as they grow older they will become more interested in it and learn how it all works. Kids that spend most of their time of consoles don’t really have anything to learn from it, except how to shoot a zombie :P
