Mac get more web share
Web use statistics prove that the Mac continues to gain market share from Windows-based computers. According to various web analysts Mac web share has increased by 0.3% since December 2008 which is a staggering figure. Even use of Apple’s Safari browser have increased to 8.29 percent in January, up from 7.93% in December alone. However some of those Safari hits come iPhone and iPod touch users and others come from people who are fooled into installing Apple’s browser on their Windows machine.
The strong percentage increase in December could of been down to the fact that people are more inclined to stay at home where the Mac is more of a home computer rather than business so that may explain it. However even though people returned to work in January 2008 which is a sign that Windows is really starting to loose its grip on the web market.
The seemingly minor monthly rise works out to an annualized rate of 3.6% and 3.6% rise in market share is far from small potatoes especially considering that in the declining market through which the world is currently grunting and groaning, every user is precious. Apple always seem to do better with machines for the home rather than the business because they are far more fun and easier to use. Windows machines are normally used in the office for business where Windows machines are very powerful and useful.
This is just adding to the ever growing battle between Windows and Apple Mac which seems to never end. Personally, I really don’t mind either machine interface. They offer unique things depending on what you want to use it for. Either home or office. The choice is entirely up to you! Although I personally use a Mac machine as they are far easier to use and never fail. Microsoft Windows machines are more inclined to work for about two years and thats it.
MAC vs. PC – Which Computer?
The long debate is still at full flow and with the PC still way out in front, we look at the option of Mac realistically catching it up. Firstly let’s have a look and the positives and negatives of both systems.
Apple Mac
The Apple Mac is a very different beast from a PC; originally used premoninantly by graphic designers for publishing software including as Quark Express.
if you have been using a PC for most of your life, then it will take you some time in getting used to how a Mac works. That said, once you have got used to it, the Mac system is a very user friendly computer. aA crucial advantage of Mac’s is much software and hardware is developed in house and with tight protocol, therefore it is not a third party creating different parts of the systems so it can be a lot more reliable.
Apple Mac – One Disadvantage: Mac’s can be pricey. With the amount that you can pay for a lower specification Mac, you could obtain yourself a top of the range PC that will be feature packed.
Apple Mac – One Advantage: Can you remember the last time your mates Mac was infected with a virus? No, enough said.
PC
Traditional PCs and laptops are very popular, and dominate the home market with 90% occupancy. PC’s are cheap, customisable and easy to take apart and put back together.
PC – One Disadvantage: Prone to viruses and hardware failures
PC – One Advantage: Hardware can be customised
Mac vs. PC conclusions
MACS are very tasty pieces of kit, If you have the money and can afford an Apple Mac then I would go to this higher level of equipment. Ultimately it does depend on what you want the machine for. There is still the debat on games, can the Mac run as many games as a PC? The answer is no, but is that reason enough. That is why we have dedicated games consoles.
It’s Mac for me all day long.
